The Art of Hand Care

By: AfriBeautyCollective Skin

Did you know that your hands are the first body part to show your age? Considering the work they do, it’s no wonder our hands seem to age faster than the rest of our bodies. The fragile skin on our hands is subjected to almost constant water, weather and sun exposure, making it more susceptible to the same age spots, wrinkles, and sun damage that we work so hard to avoid showing up on our face.

Most of us have a skincare regimen for our faces, but we often if not always forget about our hands. We’ve put together a hand regimen to slow down the ageing of your hands and keep them looking young.

Try a gentle moisturizer like Modara’s Bonolo Shea Butter cream (made for kids but gentle enough to use on hands) www.modaranaturals.com

You’ll see a massive difference in the appearance of your hands when you adopt this simple yet effective hand-care routine:

  • Gloves– Wear gloves when cleaning and for prolonged outdoor exposure or when cleaning.
  • Sunscreen– Use sunscreen SPF50 or higher and reapply frequently.
  • Gentle Soap – Choose a gentle hand soap to that has a moisturising agent like a coconut or jojoba oil
  • Moisturize –Keeping hands hydrated will prevent the early onset of wrinkles. Apply creams frequently to help your skin retain its elasticity. Shea butter is a great moisturizer for your hands
  • Exfoliate –Dry skin is dead skin, using a simple mixture of lemon and sugar to exfoliate and tone your skin weekly to see results.
  • Spot Correction – You can treat age spots at home with lemon juice and don’t forget to use sunscreen on your hands as well
  • Essential Oils– Lavender and Lemon Essential oils help to even out the skin and are great spot removers. Mix these two oils with a base oil like olive oil apply to your skin and pull on a pair of gloves. Let the salve soak in while you sleep, and wake up to softer hands
