To Shave Or Not To Shave That Is The Question!

Why Do We Have Underarm Hair?

  • Helps Us Sweat – Underarm hair helps us sweat, a completely natural bodily function no matter how much deodorant we use to try and stop it. The idea is that your underarm hair pulls sweat away from your body aiding in ventilation.
  • Reduces Friction –  The hair under your arms can prevent your skin from sticking to itself and rubbing together – It reduces friction between the upper and lower arm during vigorous motion, this moves bacteria away from the skin, and prevents bacterial infections.
  • Can Increase Sexual Appeal – According to studies, underarm hair supposedly makes us more attractive as it holds on to sweat longer, which carry pheromones sex behavioural changing chemicals produced naturally by the body. They can increase sex appeal, a territorial marker, and a warning sign in dangerous situations.

Do We Need To Shave Our Underarm Hair?

The answer is a big fat resounding no. There is no health reason to remove your underarm hair however if you want to for aesthetic reasons, hey why not?! Do / “shave” what makes you feel comfortable, lol!  We do encourage you to shave if you sweat excessively, as underarm hair holds sweat longer which can make our natural scent pungent. Shaving can make antiperspirant more effective and reduce the appearance of sweat stains on your clothes.

Many women prefer the aesthetic of a shaved underarm and the reduced natural aroma.  What one woman decides to do with her body hair is her business, and hers alone.
